San Francisco, CA – March 24, 2026 – Generate Capital (“Generate”), a leading infrastructure investment platform, today announced the sale of Equinox Growers, a Virginia-based developer and operator of high-tech greenhouses to Taylor Farms, a leading North American producer of fresh foods.
The Equinox Growers facility is a 10-acre controlled-environment greenhouse capable of producing approximately six million pounds of leafy greens annually, providing a reliable year-round supply of fresh produce to East Coast markets through high-efficiency controlled-environment agriculture. Developed in 2022 by Generate and its operating partners and constructed by a leading Dutch greenhouse developer, the facility progressed from groundbreaking through construction and commissioning, reaching a major milestone in 2024 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by former Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, highlighting it as a significant investment in advanced agricultural infrastructure in Virginia.
“Our strategy was to develop a high-quality greenhouse facility using proven technology and bring it successfully into operation. The facility is now producing at scale and demonstrates how disciplined development and strong operating execution can deliver reliable year-round production.” said Nam Nguyen, Chief Operating Officer of Generate Capital. “Working alongside our partners, we delivered the facility on time and on budget and established a productive operation. At a time when many controlled-environment agriculture ventures have struggled, this project demonstrates what disciplined development and proven greenhouse technology can achieve. We’re proud of what the team has built and look forward to seeing the facility continue to grow under Taylor Farms’ ownership, whose scale and expertise position them to expand its impact in the market.”
“It’s been incredibly rewarding to see what the team accomplished at this facility,” said John McMahon, Chief Executive Officer of Equinox Growers. “This project demonstrates the potential of modern greenhouse agriculture when thoughtful design, strong operating practices, and the right partners come together. We’re excited to see the operation continue to grow and serve customers under Taylor Farms’ ownership, building on the strong foundation established by the team.”
The Louisa County greenhouse was designed to produce fresh leafy greens year-round while reducing land, water, and transportation requirements compared with traditional agriculture while bringing production closer to consumers and regional food supply chains. The facility supports regional food supply chains and advances more efficient agricultural production. Controlled-environment agriculture is gaining momentum in the United States as retailers and food companies look to strengthen domestic food supply chains and enable more consistent year-round production.
