Senior Manager, Strategic Finance

 

About The Position

The Senior Manager, Strategic Finance will lead high-priority financial projects to inform Generate’s strategy and create value, including the long-term investment model, portfolio and resource allocation, and financial diligence. The role will own critical workstreams from start to finish, collaborate closely with Generate’s leadership team, and work cross-functionally across the organization to model opportunities for the business. Leading a small team, this Senior Manager will build trust by making what is complex simple and will do it with elegant models that are both accurate and easy to understand for Generate’s leadership team and external stakeholders. This will be a key role in driving growth for the company through a combination of a business partnership, financial leadership, and data-driven insights.

This person is also highly analytical, a team player, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys detail-oriented and challenging puzzles, can work with limited guidance and is excellent at communicating information clearly to a variety of stakeholders and across functions of a business.

 

What you will be doing at Generate Capital as the Senior Manager, Strategic Finance

 

  • Own and run quarterly the long-term investment case model for Generate
  • Initiate and complete strategic financial analysis and projects. Provide appropriate and reliable financial advice, recommendations, and expert technical interpretation on complex strategic and operational matters; and demonstrate leadership when collaborating with others
  • Build and maintain appropriate analytical models to support robust data and information analysis, and undertake advanced statistical and financial forecasting, scenario modeling and trends analysis
  • Take a lead and build/foster strong relationships and work collaboratively with the Strategy, Office of CIO; FP&A; Capital Markets teams to ensure analysis is fully aligned with company objectives and supported in an integrated way
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the Company and be able to efficiently generate needed data requests and reporting from the systems
  • Seek new opportunities for problem-solving and enhancing the strategic finance activity through collaboration with peers to maximize efficiency and leverage collective knowledge to ensure high quality and continuous improvement
  • Manage a small team

 

Candidate qualifications & core characteristics:

  • A demonstrated passion for, or commitment to, our mission
  • 6+ years of experience in a combination of investment banking, investing (PE, VC, hedge fund), management consulting, or experience at a high-growth tech company in Strategic Finance, FP&A, Business Intelligence, or similar role
  • A high degree of comfort navigating and maintaining complex financial models. Demonstrated experience in developing financial models from scratch (preferred).
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical agility with quantitative and technical abilities
  • Advanced experience with Excel required; experience with VBA (preferred).
  • Previous experience in SQL, Tableau, Python, or other computer programming languages is a plus
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including empathy, intuition, and listening
  • Excellent organizational and self-management capability
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team
  • Ability to rapidly learn new concepts with minimal formal instruction
  • High level of self-awareness and humility, with excitement about confronting uncomfortable situations or new challenges

  • Experience in a growth company is preferable
