The Challenge

Electrification, manufacturing growth and data centers are driving sustained increases in U.S. power demand at a pace not seen in decades. Utilities need to add reliable capacity quickly while retiring coal generation and integrating more solar and wind onto the grid. They are seeking firm, bankable capacity solutions and in the places where it can have the greatest impact: near fast growing load centers and transmission constraints.

The Solution

esVolta develops and operates strategically located battery storage assets designed to deliver capacity where the grid and customers need it most. The company identifies markets with growing demand and grid constraints, secures sites and interconnection rights, and contracts capacity with utilities, corporates and other large energy buyers. Its Gila Monster energy storage project shows the model at work. The 150 MW / 600 MWh system is under development near Rio Rancho, one of New Mexico's fastest-growing cities and near anticipated data center development and growing electricity demand. It is contracted to Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) under a long-term energy storage agreement as part of the utility’s plan to meet rising load and transition away from coal generation.

Operational Excellence

With more than eight years of experience and a team of 100+ professionals, esVolta manages every stage of a project’s lifecycle, from development and financing through construction and operations. esVolta’s in-house origination, market analytics, and commercial teams drive contracting success and optimize risk-adjusted returns. The scaled platform has 2 GWh of projects in operations and under construction across California and Texas and a ~25 GW pipeline of projects across five power markets, including WECC, where Gila Monster is located. The company pairs this development and operating expertise with financing expertise and innovation: esVolta has raised more than $1B of project financings over the past 24 months, e, including one of the first tax equity transactions for standalone battery storage under the Inflation Reduction Act.

The Impact
Reliable capacity sited where demand is growing fastest, including new data center load in the Southwest.
Long-term contracts with utilities and large energy buyers that provide durable, predictable revenue.
Clean, fast-responding storage that helps utilities replace retiring fossil generation.
Gila Monster demonstrates how data-driven origination strategy and disciplined execution can deliver reliable capacity where the grid and customers need it most.
